Tromsø is renowned for breeding innovative artists within the electronic music field. Insomnia Festival seeks to evolve this creative energy by creating a platform for new electronic music and techno culture.
Insomnia is a festival for innovative electronic music. The creative process within this genre is as broad as the music itself, and the festival aims to sample and share the wide variety of its range, from …. to….. The Festival comes together through live concerts, dj/club events, seminars, exhibitions, performance, installations and debates. we have welcomed….. Our venues vary from Tromsø’s beautiful old cinema, Verdensteatret to the student house Driv which used to be the old youth house where artists like Bel Canto, Röyksopp and Rune Lindbæk started their career.
The festival is based in Tromsø as the city established itself as Norway’s capital of house and techno when the genre emerged. Insomnia Festival runs as a non-profit event, with our main goal to create an artistic melting pot and an important platform for cutting-edge artists working within the arctic circle.
Tromsø City is based on an island surrounded by majestic mountains which are covered in snow most of the year. About 70,000 people live here and 10,000 of those are students. This is an environment that provides creative energy and mental space – so we recommend that both artists and audiences stay for the whole week to get the most out of Insomnia’s recreation and inspiration.
