Novas Frequências is South America’s main international event on experimental music and sound explorations. Taking place every first week of December in Rio de Janeiro, the program happens in different City places and presents activities that range from shows, sound performances, talks, workshops, installations, club nights, commissioned and site specific projects.
Novas Frequências was born in 2011 always in search of artists that break pre-established frontiers looking for new sound languages. For the festival, sound experiences and the exploration of its limits are more relevant than genre and music styles – what makes NF closer to contemporary art than to music as entertainment.
Some of the artists Novas Frequências hosted in the past presenting them for the first time in Brazil: William Basinski, Tim Hecker, Ben Frost, Stephen O’Malley, The Bug, Actress, Dean Blunt & Inga Copeland, Moritz von Oswald, Fennesz, Keiji Haino, Xiu Xiu, RP Boo, Vladislav Delay, Milka Vaino, Andy Stott, Sun Araw, Pole, David Toop, Demdike Stare, Aki Onda, Phill Niblock, Philip Jeck, Aisha Devi, Tomoko Sauvage, Ashley Paul, Julianna Barwick, Lee Gamble, Laraaji and many more.
