Formed in 2010, VIA is an annual festival and series of events exploring the boundaries of music, art and technology. Bringing musicians and visual artists together from home and around the world, the VIA Festival mutates each year with collaborative a/v performances, exhibitions, lectures, workshops, and more.
VIA has been recognized by Female:Pressure for equity among its lineups, asserting visibility and viability for women, LGBTQ, and artists of color in electronic music.
“A taste worth championing and an ear towards boundary pushing and educational sonic journeys.” – Resident Advisor
“Deliberate unpredictability and constant retooling allows [VIA] a sort of creative freedom that many other festivals don’t have. That approach also lends itself to bills far more diverse than you often see in mainstream fests, both in genre and in demographics.” – THUMP
“In an over-saturated global festival market, what really sets VIA apart from its peers is a very apparent hunger to stretch what it means to be a festival in the 21st century.” – Dummy Magazine
“You’ll know live visualism has arrived when visualists regularly ‘headline’ the way music does. Look no further than Western PA, where Pittsburgh’s spectacular VIA is doing it right.” – Create Digital Motion
“It’s queer as hell, and we don’t just mean gay. (But we definitely also mean gay.)” – Huffington Post
